What exactly does this do? Honestly, there doesnt seem to be a lot of information about it. Will it help control nitrates? General Tank health?
Do I need to leave it on 100% of the time or turn it off?
Please shed all pieces of information you know or would like to!

It will not lower the nitrates. It will clarify the water that passes through it by sterilizing it with UV. How effective it is at that depends if it is sized correctly for the task. Uv can be used to kill water born parasites but most people do not set up the systems correctly or use large enough sterilizer to be effective.

WHAT?!?!
Rick, please do a little more research.
UV does not kill copepods... anything that passes through the light gets a short burst of UV light which renders most microscopic organisms unable to reproduce... it doesn't actually kill anything.
Snake-- You have read and helped with a lot of my tank issues lately.. what is your opinion about the UV being hooked up to my tank??
ps. I am still having "holes" growing... And.. this worm thing!! Jesus its huge... I am always watching my tank -- I dont know how i didnt see him before.. He is always out and about now!!!

Won't do a darn thing for nitrates.
Snake, I've seen Copepods and Mysid shrimp get sucked through my uv and come out dead.
I am one of the few that runs one on their reef tank. That being said, the Bio Cube sterilizer is a waste of money.

unless you are having greenwater issues caused by high nitrates and phosphates which you should control anyway, i dont see a reason for adding one to a tank unless its a QT/HT.

I think that's really more the heart of the issue. My phone froze earlier and I couldn't edit this. I think it's the pump that kills things. Even a return pump will kill pods.
Can kill pods doesn't kill all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
