Hi i have had a 55gal tank setup for about 8 yrs full reef. For lights i have 3-96watt pc and 2-175 watt mh. I hear that a uv sterilizer is a need. I have gone for awhile without one. What is your opion and what does it acually do.
Also i was told in order to keep a healthy tank for a long period of time a phosphate reactor is a must also.
Any input would be great

neither is a requirement...each is a solution to problems that arise in many reefs; but certainly not all reefs, I would only add either as a response to a particular problem.

They kill variuos parasites in the watee I think. I do not run one and I have never had any problems.
