Uv Sterilizer

I was wondering how long you guys and gals run your uv's. Do you run them constantly or like once a week? I was talking to a marine biologist the other day and he said to only run them once a week because they kill the good bacteria as well as the bad stuff. He said it was very unhealthy to run them constantly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I personally run mine 24 hours/day 7 days/week. I have no problems so far. I did read that the bulb should be changed every 6 months rather than 12 months for best results.

I have mine on a timer to run for 6 hr a day.
