UV sterilizers circulate water through a canister containing a UV light. The light kills many parasites, most algea spores, and all bacteria. The dwell time (time water is exposed to the light) determines what will be killed. Parasites require a much higher dwell time then algae and bacteria. Bacteria requiring the shortest times.
