V-Lion Found Dead This Morning????

All my water level tests all are good and have done regular water changes. 75 Gal tank. Woke up this AM to find the Lion (8") dead on the bottom of the tank. He had been eating fine, but the night before he started to turn pale. He was completely white except for his fin in the AM. We've had him since NOV. 08, and only been with a Dogfaced Puffer. Would treating the tank with Blue Line Red Slime remover have anything to do with his death because we treated the tank about a week ago with the carbon out per directions, or does anyone have any thoughts on what happened to him?

An 8 inch lion in a 75 gal tank is likely your main problem. What and how often were you feeding this fish?

We were feeding about every three/four days or so. But with the puffer he would eat the most compared to the Lion. The Lion seemed to eat well when he wanted to , and other times he didn't show any real interest for a few days.

As I said, that size fish is really too big for your tank. What were you feeding him? Did you try to target feed this fish?

Silversides, yup you could just wiggle it at the top of the tank and he would come take it. We also fed him krill every now and then if he would not take the silversides

Doubtful the tank size was a factor. An 8 inch lion would be fine for quite some time in a 75. Rather sedentary fish and you had awhile before it maxed out in size. Tough to say with the color loss. Was the puffer bothering the lion at all?
Might have been an internal problem. Krill is realy not a good food for these fish. Silversides are fine but as with most fish, a varied diet is better. There are also simply unexplainable deaths that occur for no obvious reason so don't discount this as a possiblility. Not sure about the red slime remover, however any type of chemical can be harmful. Volitans are extremely tolerant of less than ideal water conditions however so my sense is it may not have been this. Is the puffer acting okay?

The puffer never bothered the lion it was kinda funny cause they hang out and lay next to each other in the tank. The puffer now is acting pretty normal but seems to be pouting more then usual kinda hiding out more. We bought a different test kit just to make sure the one I had was giving the right reading all levels good. Thanks so much for the input. Really bummed out about this one.

I hear the best thing to feed them is a base of Silversides, with some other treates such as shrimp and squid. Sometimes however, fish just die... There may be no one reason, or it may be a combination of many reasons... I would continue checking your water paramaters and watch your puffer very closely for the next couple weeks just in case.

I have been reserching this and I talked to a guy at my LFS and he was saying that sometimes before they wack the silversides that they treat them with copper and lions are sensitive to it could this be and if so could it have kill him. I had them check my water as well today and its all good.
