So my Husband's brother is graduating Bootcamp in August and we're gonna trek down to Georgia to be there when he gets his cord & badges.
We were thinking of making a short vacation of it.
Anyone know what there is to do in Georgia for a few days? Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!! :jumping:

You could always visit that new zoo I hear they are makin'....supposed to be the worlds largest...but there have been reports of serious inbreeding problems associated with it....yup.....I hear they've decided to fence in the entire state of Alabama!!!!!!!!!
Just a joke I couldn't resist.....have a good time in the south.....I can't help with any specific(serious) suggestions....but if I was headed that way I sure take a camera.

The graduation is going to be at Fort Benning, near Columbus Georgia. We don't really need to stay in the area after the graduation, I'd love to see Atlanta or Savanah...but I don't know where to start!
I guess I'll have to get some travel books.

Savanah is very nice. Lots of big old homes right around River Street. Also visit Exotic Underworlds if your there. They have some nice stuff.

You could always find a Florida beach to visit. The gulf coast is only a few hours away from columbus. Savanah would be a nice drive from there. Atlanta isn't far and you could do the Georgia Aquarium and the Atlanta Zoo. Maybe take in a Braves game if they are in town.

Savannah is quite the drive from Ft. Benning. However, Atlanta is not a bad drive. Get tix to a braves game and take a day for Six Flags or the Aquarium. The Coke museum is actually pretty good too. Driving in "Hotlanta" is a pain in the ass though, so be prepared for some frustrating conditions. Also, be prepared for VERY hot weather. Down here in summertime its the air you wear. I lived in Panama for a while and the jungle wasnt as bad as Atlanta in August.
BTW- I didnt really appreciate the comment on fencing in Alabama. They only fenced in Auburn!

You could drive to the coast in about 4 1/2 hours. Thats no too bad. But I'm used to 18 hours to my destination. Even the Jacksonville (Ameila Island) area is pretty. Savannah is beautiful. I love it there. You could make Charleston (really pretty) in maybe 6 hours.
Highway 16 is a piece of cake (just not a lot of potty stops
)

I live in Atlanta...Have you forgtten that the WORLD'S LARGEST Aquarium is in Atlanta?

There is so much to do here. Augusta is a 2 hr drive from Atlanta. You will be 2 hours to Savannah and Charleston, SC as well.
In Atlanta you have Stone Mountain PArk, Six Flags over Georgia, White Water - Water Park. Underground Atlanta.
What do you like to do?

Don't waste your time coming to Augusta. Go to the aquarium in Atlanta, there is a really nice zoo in Columbia, SC. If you want to go to the beach, Savannah (Tybee Island) is nice, as are Jacksonville, FL and Charleston, SC. Tybee Island gets pretty crowded compared to the others though. If you prefer the mountains, go to Helen or Gatlinburg, TN.

we went to...ummm let me look it up...Apple Mountian resort is where we stayed. It was great. Found cool waterfall, waterslides really, yep, it was fun. I know we drove through Atlanta, but don't really remember what part of GA we were at.
