Valentines Present not looking so good

Is this the same thing? Mine is open in this picture. It does close up at night and looks like the picture above. I have it in a 12 gal nano. Is this too small? My LFS didnt say anything about it being hard to keep or not to keep it in my tank. My LFS has always been very good to me and Ive been going there for years. I only paid $35 for it.

The coral is now disintergrating - I would assume without asking that this is not a good sign.
I have moved it to a shaded area with direct water flow and nothing is helping. Based on the reading I had done it appears my main problem is that this coral needs an established reef - which I do not have since the tank has only been up since Dec 19th.
The LFS was closed yesterday so I wasnt able to call them
I am waiting till Noon when they open today to discuss this. I doubt that I will be refunded if the issue is my ignorance and not a problem with the coral in and off itself
So sadly the hubby's gift is dead (I believe) but 5 years ago I gave birth to his son on this day so I am still one up on him in the gift department.
Now another question :
Since this fiasco I have been doing a ton of reading and it appears that my best bet for "starter corals" would be mushrooms and Ricolli (sp?) as well as possibly a colt coral
Since I have PCs can anyone suggest a list of good "Corals for Idiots"? the tank size is 110 gallons so there is plenty of room with at least 160 LBs of Live roock (sadly i lost count of what the exact amount is after 150 ...
thanks for all the help - you have no idea how informative this is

NW2SWFSH,
We all make mistakes, too bad yours was an EXPENSIVE ONE!
I would go back to the store and ask to speak with the manager, tell them that you explained your tank set up and the salesman sold you THIS!
You were clearly steered wrong. YOu may want to sneak in " I think your employees should have MORE experience or knowlege about SWF IF your gonna let him sell in this dept. " as not for this to happen to others! A good DIG may help! LOLOL
See what they will do for you.
I would let your tank mature a bit more before adding any more expensive corals. I would suggest maybe
1. Finger Coral
2. Mushrooms
3. Colt
4. Leather Coral
5. polyps
for now... in a while try something "prettier" or more exotic..
Welcome to the boards. Sorry about your coral....

Wow, I didn't realize the tank was only 2 months old. Sorry, it's not looking good. Button polyps are pretty cool and easy to keep.
