I will agree with sweet reef to a degree. Valentini puffers are alot like coral beauty angels. You get some good ones and you get some nasty ones. If you want to shift the odds in your favor you can do two things.
One: buy a valentini that is very small and has been weaned over to shrimp at a LFS, I went this route and am having 0 casulties including 4 peppermint shrimp + softies.
Two: Buy a valentini puffer again thats small and get a 10 gallon quarantine tank. Feed him accordingly shrimp/kale and wean him over to eating from your hand. This will greatly increase the odds that the puffer will not take a licking to your corals. Check out marine depots tank of their catalog on the 2nd page. There is a huge reef full of sps with a valentini right in the center.
My valentini has not touched any of my leathers, red mushrooms, pumping zenia, LPS, Starburst, or many variations of zoo's. The puffer is housed in a 55 gallon as well.
I also feed him twice a day and he is very messy but there are tricks to the mess like omniovore fish picking up the remains of the shrimp and feeding the shrimp on a stick.
