I would email or call customer service and see what they have to say. You might take a photo or two as well. It may help them in determining if they think there may be a problem, or may be able to give you advice in helping the fish if indeed there is a problem.

so i called the DR. and they said it sounded like the puffer has a bacterial infection and to get some melafix and primafix. So at 7:30 this morning i went to wal mart and they didnt have it so i drove 30 miles to the next walmart and they had the melafix and i put it in the qt. 2and 1half hours later my valentini is belly up. i called them back and told them and they were decent about it
and credited my c.card for the amount but still. I told her the fish was not healthy when they sent him out. he was only at my house for 24 hours. whoever put him in the shipping bag either didnt look at him or didnt care because he was head and fins and not much else. anyway i just needed to vent. this is the first and last time i will buy fish by mail. i think ill stick to my lfs. at least if i buy a sick fish it will be because of my own ineptitude.

Also very sorry to hear about your bad experience. Personally, I have two LFS locally. One carries a very poor variety and overcharges. The other does not properly handle or care for fish. So I have bought everything I still have online. You have to realize that your fish are being shipped either way. But if you buy them direct from one of the online stores you get to at least be the one to acclimate it properly and it will not have to be moved once more or held for an unknown period of time at the LFS. If you have a great LFS then this is a mute point. But I'd just like to say that I have had nothing but wonderful experiences with online retailers. Most LFS will not refund your money, so that's another bonus to using an online retailer. One thing I've learned that helps prevent your situation is to purchase from the Eye It And Buy It sections. Seeing the actual fish you will get is worth the extra $ to me.
