Very cool pics! I do have a question though, The directions that came with it said to only give it indirect sunlight and to keep the soil moist but not wet. Yours thrive though, I see you are in Florida, that is some hot sun!! I took mine outside for a little while yesterday for a little sun and it seemed to sulk, some of the branches?(for lack of a better word) were drooping and came back up when I brought it inside. I don't know, I guesse I will have to see each day. Very cool bog though!!! Looks very nice, thanks for sharing!!!!

Over the next week, introduce your traps to sunlight. Remember, only use RO water,
the minerals in tap water will kill them. You don't need to leave the traps in water all of the time. Also, don't make the traps close... I know it's tempting, but it takes alot of energy for the trap to close then open up... There are some great websites on the web!!Good luck!!

What do you use for your tank??? I don't have a RO unit either... I get my RO water from the water machine at the local grocery store. .30 cents per gallon!!! Spring water is ok.. you can also catch rain water. Anyways, try this site: www.cpsecrets.com There are others.... just google!!

Kim, they are in a small planter (solid plastic including the plastic top of the greenhouse unit. Do I need to transplant them. I will tell you now, I am horrible with outside plants. I always forget to water them. I live a very busy life. I was thinking of bringing the plant home with me. I am in and out all night and get little night flyers in my house that the plant would probably love, knatts, small moths, that kind of thing. The store is a much different situation. Store is on a highway, home is all woods around me. I could set him on my enclosed porch durring the day and bring him in at night, probably a much better place for him. What do you think?

Sepulatian, You don't need to worry about transplanting them now. They should be fine in the container. Venus Fly Traps should be planted in a mixture of sphagnum peat moss, sand and perlite. I think taking it home would be a great idea. You might want to set it outside sometimes too... You can take the plastic top off too!! Watering is very important and the tray method works well.
Thanks Moby!! The bog is my husband's hobby... We hope to add more plants soon such at sundew's, butterworts... I found the pitcher plants at Lowe's of all places... It's hard to find carnivorus plants in the stores other than venus fly traps.

Not really anything about their care, but I thought I would just add that they come from SC, and NC. So humidity and sunlight are abundant where they are found naturally (too much humidity and sunlight if you ask me
).

Hi!!
I checked with my resident expert (hubby) and he said "yes" but snip it off with scissors. Good for you!! Sounds like your trap is doing well!!! We planted a couple of new traps this weekend. The fly traps are a blood red color. They are really cool.

they sound cool! I was looking at my plant again tonight, and a few of them have brown spots and the one that had the brown spot is turning black. Would lack of sunlight do that? It has been rainy and cloudy here. I was afraid it would bake out in the sun, so I have been keeping it on the windowsill, but it has been very cloudy and rainy for a few days now and thats when I noticed the spot. It is only the ones that are closed, and not all of the closed ones. I was also wondering when to snip them. If it is when the spots start, or wait and see if they get worse? Thanks to you and hubby!!!
