My tank has officially cycled 1 week ago and upon testing my calcium with my nutrifin test kit it revealed 600! i thought maybe my test kit was stuffed so i bought a red sea calcium pro test kit and my calcium still reads 600.
Is this detrimental to my tank?
Tank:
75 Gallons,
Ph: 8.0
KH: 10
Amm: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: (not even 5 ppm)
Phosphate: 0
Stock Is: 2 x Occelaris Clownfish and 5 trocus (spelling?) snails.
I havent added any buffers or anything

Don't take only my word only on this but I have been told that high cal won't really hurt anything but can cause a kind of precipitation to build up. If you do a water change and don't add a calcium buffer it will help lower it a bit. Calcium may start to build up on glass and back wall.

Test your magnesium level. Calcium and magnesium affect each other in solution. Chances are your magnesium is very low.

if ur not keeping any corals or calcium demanding inverts, u really dont hv to test for calcium. with regular water changes every 2 weeks, ur calcium will stablized.

With only the fish and the snails in the tank I dont know that I would worry about it but I am sure you want to have some nice coraline growth in your tank so You do need to get the calicum down. If your calcium is high it will effect the ph and also the dKH. Typically the ph and dKH will be low if you have a high calcium level. Calcium is not that hard to lower. All that you need to do is get some baking soda and put about 2 teaspoons or 2.5 teaspoons in some RO water and swish it around for a bit then let what doesnt liquify into the water settle down to the bottom and dump the water into your sump or display. I like to dump it in my display. If your calcium is that high make sure you do this about 2 times daily, until your calcium is back down to a normal level. This will make your ph and dKH go up so you will need to do frequent tests. I tested an hour after I added the baking soda into my tank. I have calcium just about as high as yours and it only took me a few days of doing this to get it down to a normal level and it also made my dKH and ph raise to the desired levels. so you can try this if you need quick results. It wont hurt your tank and if you hae anymore questions pm me and I will help you out. Dustin

thank you everybody for your help, especially pondy for the detailed explaination, i have done a few small water changes and my calcium has dropped dramatically, it is now down to 500. as long as it does not hurt what little livestock i have i can handle that
its only a new setup so i will let nature take its course in settling the tank down.
Thanks soo much
