VHO ballast???

what is a VHO ballast, i am looking at lighting and it says " requires VHO ballast "

VHO ballast--- makers ,reliable ones anyway.

can you hook up a ballast to any NO strip light and make it VHO? say like a shop light?

A shop light will physically accommodate a VHO bulb. The issue with adding a VHO ballast to the fixture is that the NO ballast used in the low end shop lights are incorporated in the end caps/housing of the shop lights. It would require a little more work to cut them out of circuit and add a VHO ballast externally. It could be done, but you would be better off buying a retro kit..
