maybe a crocea, i think u can keep them under strong vho or pc. so i would say yes with the other 2 bulbs making it 440w or 8 wpg.

YES derasa or squamosa.
DEFINITELY no crocea or maxima.
YES add the other 2 bulbs.
If you value your pocket book you will not buy a crocea or maxima.....

As long as you add the two extra bulbs, then I'd say yes to T. squamosa, T. gigas, and T. derasa. They can be kept on the bottom. And I think a T. maxima or T. crocea would also work as long as you keep them within a few inches of the surface, but even then their color may not be the best.

Clams are the coolest, so full of amazing color depending on how your bulbs are hitting them. I say definitly worth your money for the bulbs and the clams!! Will brighten up your whole tank depending on placement.

i had all 4 on my 120 in the past. i'm just worried about the heat w/ the limited space on the 55

I think 4 is alot for 55 gal.
How big is your hood, will it fit 4 bulbs? Not sure if necessary to put in 4 bulbs if only for the clam?

it's big. i built a crappy one, and finally bought the matching all=glass brand canopy. will hold 4 bulbs easily and it is very well vented, but i still worry. those bulbs get damn hot. a friend of mine's house burned down w/ 2 many watt's (Ice caps) yikes!!

You bought a whole new tank and canopy after you had built one? That is a lot of $$ and moving? I worry about the same thing that things will get too hot. That is why I have kept mine with 2 and not going to increase.

no, just bought the matching canopy to the stand. Maybe i'll say screw the clam and not burn down my house. sound good??

I think you could do the clam wiht only 2 bulbs, everyone has a different opinion on what they have learned. I would say stick with the two bulbs and not burn the house down though!!
