I was reading another thread and someone happened to chime in with a common 'xbox sucks playstation is the pwnerz' comment. It shocks me completely that people havent thrown away their ps2 or traded it for a xbox... it is VERY obvious and FACT that xbox has far superior grafics and speed than ps2... not to mention never really needing to buy memory cards.... ever.. but there are some good reasons that people have ps2.. actually... only one reason they SHOULD have one and not a xbox. PS2 has way more games..... and I shall explain why>>>
In the begining... there was Atari... hmm.. no need to go that far back I spose.. Atari was a good system for stoners I spose.. but video games never really started in my book until regular Nintendo.. yes the system that gave us mario and duck hunt on the SAME cartridge... yes a cartridge.. no cd's here. Once the system reached about 2 months you had to constantly blow on the inside of the game to try and get any loose dust or whatever outta there... was a real beauty. At the time nintendo was a HUGE improvement over the Atari system.. Nintendo had no competition whatsoever and ended up making some big $$$.
A few years later (not sure of the dates, I was young) the almighty Super Nintendo made its appearance... QUITE a great system.. even today I find myself going back and enjoying some of the old games that (in my opinion) blow some newer games away. The look of the super nintendo vs the nintendo were like light and day... such a great system... but whats this... finally someone rose to the challenge of taking on the big power known as Nintendo... Sega Genesis was creeping around. Note that before Sega Genesis there was plain sega.. a system that was couple steps higher than atari... I still have this system. Sega Genesis was.. a decent system.. the problem? The games... it didnt have many decent games.. and Nintendo was already well known compaired to the Sega.. Sega was making money.. but could not compete with Nintendo... Sega created Sega CD.. which was one of the first cd systems out there.. this didnt help Sega much because again the games were crap... even though on paper the sega cd had better graphics than the Nintendo... Nintendo still won the war.
Nintendo 64! I remember the first time I played this system.. I rented it and Mario 64... the graphics were insane... it was like playing a cartoon (it seemed).. so beautiful and the controls were super. The 3D worlds were so well done.. several good games made its way out onto this system... truely Nintendo would be a power that wouldnt soon disappear.
The fall of Nintendo.... the Sony playstation was around now.. Nintendo of course still with the advantage of being better known as far as video games go would start seeing a decline in its cash flow. Sony started getting all the great game companys to sign with them.. Final Fantasy 7 is just one of the many games that people made a purchase of a PS for... people bought a system for just a single game? This is where games start to become very important.. Play Station was starting to win over Nintendo.
The three way war... The three super powers in the video game wars (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft) all battled hard. Sony leading the way due to now being better known for games than even Nintendo. Nintendo just took way too long to bring out the gamecube... and its original color................................. purple.......... This was a kid system... when studies showed that quite a large number of adults were video game players.. and even though a 13 year old isnt considered an adult.. he'd die before he let his 13 year old friends come over and play his purple video game system. Finally in a last ditch effort to make sales Nintendo did come out with alternate colors to gamecube (black/silver) and made more adult(ish) games.br />
Microsofts Xbox on paper is a far superior system to the gamecube and ps2. Better graphics, better load times, far more memory... yet... PS2 outsold both systems because they were >> a) better known for games and b) had the top game companys making games ONLY for the ps2 system. Some great games like Halo and The elder scrolls still werent enough to beat the ps2.... oh and did I mention... the ps2 could play ps1 games??? So anyone with a ps1 had NO reason to not buy a ps2.
Ok where this puts us now... Xbox has released the Xbox 360.. in compairson to how quickly the ps1 and ps2 came out.. xbox put this system out FAST... Why did it do this.. its obvious.. to get the edge over Playstation. Microsoft will now be able to start beating playstation because people who are true gamers wont be able to wait for months for their ps3's to finally come out.. Sony shoulda learned from Nintendos mistake... but obviously they werent paying attention.
