I had my beautiful copperband in my qt for a month. Yesterday I moved it into my 120 gallon display. I've had a copperband and yellow tang together before, but the results this time were repulsive. I awoke this morning to see what had happened and immediatley moved my copperband back to qt. Anyone ever save a fish that has been attacked like this?

:scared: that sucks, maybe the disease/treatment forum can help you get him back up and swimming.

well since the tang was in there for a while he has his territory established and you should probably move the rock around or something if you plan on putting the copperband back...

the tang considers the CB a trespasser.
move the rock around or keep the tang in the QT for a few weeks and then put him back and see how they do. thats a pretty bad beating.

I agree with putting the tang in the qt for a while. This should acclimate him to a new "territory" and then change him back to the old one which will now belong to the CB.

Whoah, that's pretty rough. My yellow tang is pretty mean to the firefish I just added to my "peaceful" tank. I think I'm going to get rid of him. My tank is too small for a yellow tang anyway. I like the quarantine idea as well. Maybe that'll calm him down when he goes back to the display.

too little too late. He died a few hours later.
The next fish I add to my display tank, I'll try moving the rock, just in case. The next fish added will be a blue hippo. They should be compatible.
R.I.P "Pokey" the butterfly fish. -that's what my kids called it...

In the future..you may want to get a small supply of amoxicilian..500mg capsules...it comes in extremely handy when you get a post-copper or otherwise treated fish with large open wounds from an online dealer...you treat 1 capsule per 10 gallons for about 8-10 days...you have to do daily water changes and replace the cilian after...i have saved a couple of fish this way...works great for preventing secondary infections as well. A great broad spectrum antibiotic....my most recent is a Koran...when I got him from a different online source...he was about 2.5 inches long...had about a half inch gash on his left side...his left fin was just about gone...all looking like either flashing or from extremely rough handling...i FW dipped him to be somewhat safe, put him in the main tank...about 4 days later his left eye became cloudy and looking like it was going to explode from the side of his head...he stopped eating and would barely swim...
I took him out, figuring he was a gonner...I FW dipped him again, set up a quick 10 gallon hosp tank (with bio-balls floating the surface of one of my sumps), a canister filter and 1000mg of amoxicilian to start...10 days later he was fine, the gash started healing up, the fin grew back and they eye cleared up...he is now nearly 5 inches long!

You can purchase antibiotics thru any LFS or online. Obviously they aren't for human consumption they are manufactured for fish.

There is a company in which specifically makes pet meds...I originally got my amoxicilian for my shar pei...they sold it to me labeled for fish...but stated it was the same drug in their dog line-up minues the need for a vet prescription...i will look for the company tomorrow it is very late here...you can even order directly from them.
