Visi Jet PS

Has anyone had any experience using the Visi Jet PS skimmer. I have seen it advertised for very little money (under $30 dollars) and am wondering what it is lacking ? Most of the skimmers I have seem are anywhere from 65 to several hundreds of dollars. I have a 44 gal pentagon tank, that I am ust starting (about 4-5 weeks old). Crushed coral bottom, 35 lbs of live rock, 2 55 watt compact flo (1 blue 1 daylight) I have a Skilter 250 (and am not real happy with it), a 275 gph power head. I got 2 fire gobies, one cleaner shimp, and a couple of Fl. atlantic pink tips anemones. All the levels, (PH, nitrite, nitrate, amonia, salt) are perfect. The rock and algea is growing fine. The tank has started to grow some brown algea, but I understand that that is a normal matter of course. I know in a couple of weeks I will need a 'clean up' crew. I also know I am going to need a protien skimmer and the VisiJet price looks nice but is it effective ?

I'm not to sure about visi-jet skimmer products. I use a top-fathom brand skimmer and it works great. If you are trying to save a little money there are a bunch of aquarium products new and used on ----, under pets/fish category. You might find a good deal there. My advice is don't skim on your skimmer, they are important in keeping a successful reef tank.

Thanks Chuck,
I am not so much concerned with the price as I am concerned about the value. I don't mind paying good money for a good product but I don't want to just be paying for a name as well (if you get my drift).

Any skimmer that is that cheap has got to be a counter-current model which are not going to do the job you want it to. The venturi types are the ones you will need--as far as brand--well there are alot of opinions. After having been at this site for a while I know alot of people are using the new bak-pak models which combine filtration with skimming.
