I just made a mistake and bought a Visi Jet protein skimmer. Anybody have one and can you explain how you got the straps to hold the motor to the tube? Nothing seems to work without it slipping.
Thanks :help:
Finally figured the terrible directions out. Thanks anyway

If I had it to do over, I'd get something else. The manual is useless, had to call the manufacturer to get it assembled. I never had a skimmer before, its rated for 70 gal., it is in a 55 gal. I have no foam, very few bubbles. The person on the phone said it could take 2 weeks to break in ??? I'll give it a couple of weeks and make air adjustments then probably throw it away and go another route. Money is the only reason I got it, $25.00.
Hope this helps you.

Dont throw it away. You could try to sell it back to someone else on the classifieds and make a little of your money back. You never know. Someone may be willing to pay for it or take it off your hands and pay shipping for it.

Yea, thanks. I'm just frustrated. I just found this board, should have done more homework before I purchased it. Everything I've read here about them is they are junk. Live and learn.

Yah, thats about the worst skimmer out there. I know, i bought one six or seven years ago when i started out in this hobby. I think most hobbiests go for the cheapest items needed in this at first, because they really don't understand the money thats involved. These skimmers have been junk for at least six years(that i know of), why are they still selling them... cuz the inexprienced people will buy them. (sucks)
You could put the skimmer up for sale here, but i would cut your losses and use the power head in your tank or to mix new salt water with(like i did).
I had a BakPak for about a year and really wasn't impressed with it, i than bought a Prizm. Lots of people hate prizms, but for me it works great on my 38g! I did a few very simple mods to it and now i can run it wide open and it collects some good sludge. I say, get a prizm ($70) or....if you can swing it, lots of people like the Remora Urchin, witch will run $150 or so. Seems like the Urchin is top of the line for tanks 75g and under. If you are on a tighter budget, get the Prizm. JMO.
