Vitamin C Dosing

I thought I would post and share my experiences thus far...I decided to start dosing vitamin c to my reef, there have been some articles done on it...you can google them as I will respect the rules and not post links...there is really no downside to dosing, colors become more vibrant...the downside is your skimmer goes pretty nuts...here is the dosing i am following for my 300gal
For every 100 gallons:
5 ppm

[hr]
1892 mg VC
10 ppm ---- 3785 mg VC
15 ppm ---- 5677 mg VC
20 ppm ---- 7570 mg VC
25 ppm ---- 9462 mg VC
30 ppm ---- 11355 mg VC
1st day i went to 5ppm,
2nd day ii went to 15ppm
3rd day I went to 30ppm
You also notice a nitrate reduction when using VC.
I will post more as things progress.

yeah, are you using just pharmaceutical vitamin C from the drug store? and how do you test for it?

If you are going to dose with VC then I highly recommend that you use 100% pure BUFFERED VC (Calcium Ascorbate).

I'm using walgreen's brand...there's really no need to test as its gone in just a few hours.
My tank is really cloudy right now, but things look good and i am skimming like crazy

where do you get the 100% pure buffered VC (calcium ascorbate)
Brightwell Aquatics makes a buffered Vitamin-C supplement; that's what I use to enrich the foods I feed. It has directions on the container for dosing over time as well.

I got mine at a health food/specialty shop down the road from my house, it was $9 or $10 for an 8oz. bottle of powder. I've been using it for almost a month and I'm not really sure if I have seen any benefits other then my skimmer does nuts and seems to be productive and my water is clearer but it's always been very clear.

I dosed with Vitamin C for about 3-4 months and I saw absolutely no benifit to it what so ever. The only thing I noticed is that you should rinse the "slime coat" off the pill before you place it in your tank. That will prevent your skimmer from going nuts. I also noticed that there are a lot more solids in my sump from the tablets. I also noticed that these solids will plugs up foam filters. I saw no color increase, no increase in growth, or any other benifit. I would reccomend not even starting it. I use reef crystal salt and that has a lot of vatamins in it.

Why would you use a tablet when you can get pure powder?
