My lion opened his mouth, "coughed," and it looked like clear stringy things came out. He did this about a month ago, also...is this normal...he has been acting and eating fine other than that.
Thanks!!
Mine cough all the time, its usually happens if they ingest substrate or too much food. However I have no clue what this white stringy stuff is.
Are you sure these aren't two independent events. White stringy stuff is usually lionfish cuticle, maybe he shed his cuticle the same time he coughed?
^bump
Thanks for the advice, Turbo! I know have him eating Nicorette 2 x's a day and wearing the patch at night!
FMarini,
I think you are right. I think he just must have shed his cuticle the same time he coughed. I actually saw it happen and it looked like he coughed out the stringy stuff. Probably was the cuticle shedding, though. The description sounds the same. Thanks for your help!!
Ive had white stringy mucus in my tank 2 or 3 times from my volitan. I figured it was venom from his spines. Once the ENTIRE tank was full. Cleaned it up and it went away. What a friggin mess though.
Interested to see if you find any other info. No one knew a thing when it happened to me.
Chris
Hey chris:
long time no see on the board...
the white stringy mess is the lionfish cuticle. Depending on how big and how often the lionfish is and shedds will depend on how much of this stuff is in the water.
I swore i answered your question about this stuff a while back. Its lionfish cuticle
