Vortech MP10 and glass thickness

Hey all,

I had an MP10 on a ten gallon tank turned down low, of course. The ten gallon is 1/8th inch glass. I tried putting it on my 75g tank and it won't go together... like, it doesn't have a very good stick at all. it won't even stay up. The 75g tank only has 1/4" glass too, and the manufacturer recommends no greater than 3/8". Some have put them on 1/2" glass tanks and been fine. What's going on with my MP10? I got it used...

I got it to actually stay up on the glass and I stuck it well and plugged it in and it popped off, like it was opposing forces. What's going on???

HMMMM...I have an MP10 on my 180....BUT I had to use 2 sticky pads.....if they release it will slide off...

When you have it out of the water...will the 2 magnets go together??

Yes, the two magnets will go together out of the water. I can plug it in to see if it will spin the right way or not out of the water, or put it back on my ten gallon to give it a test. I just hate that I made a very good trade for it and I can't even use it.

I do have the two sticky pads, but one of them has been pulled off pretty bad. I'll have to replace it if I decide to put it back on the 75g planted freshwater system (just stiring up detritus.)

Wonder if its an electrical issue in the dry side causing the magnet on the dry side to reverse polarity when power is applied? Just a guess.

I think their holding power is poor regardless for the money. I say that for all the manufacturers though.

I don't know what it is, but it won't function properly on 1/4" thick glass. It only works on my ten gallon tank. Kinda bummed about that, to have something that costs so much (even used) and then not be able to run it on a larger system. :(

If I get to set a system back up, hopefully something better will come along the market. Right now I think the best bang for your buck is those Jebao WP's.

Thanks guys. I ended up selling it anyways... along with a package deal. Since I am out of the hobby for a few years, I'll just have to start fresh and new when I can. I'm pretty sure that there will be better products out there on the market in five years. :D
