I buy seawater from the LFS, its .99 cents a gallon and worth every penny in my opinion. It's pumped out of Half Moon Bay so its got plankton and stuff in it. I was using Grocery store bought purified water and was mixing w/ reefcrystals before, but I noticed change almost immediately once I started using the seawater. I still test the seawater each time I get a new batch, because it does vary. All I will adjust is Alk and PH, if at all. Usually I will make adjustments to PH/ Alk with my top off water, and not add anything to the seawater. I dont use any additives besides seachem reef buffer or builder, if at all. No carbon, no Calcium, just the seawater and top off water. I buy a huge sheet of pillow/quilt stuffing - sheets..... not the cotton fluffy stuff, and cut it up for my filter media. I change this out ever other day or so.
My params are usually about
pH 8.0-8.2
Alk 8.6 / 3.09
Ca 420-450
Nitrate 5-20
Salinity 1.025-1.026 (not sure if my swingarm is accurate or not!)

I also use natural sea water and have great results with it. Keep up the good work!!

The emperor shrimp has the same behavior as an anemone shrimp, Im pretty sure they are part of the same family. It's not too picky, and is pretty mellow. It usually just chills on one of rics. It's only about an inch long, I got it from my LFS for $15. I looked into it and they live naturally in Bali, Indonesia. If you do a google search there are some really cool professional diving photos somebody took......

Try googling turnicates and see if Im a winner. That emperor shrimp is so cool, I wonder if he would get along with my cleaner shrimp, because I wouldnt mind picking up something as unique as that.

Totally... those tunicates are crazy! If you ever see those at the LFS let me know!
As for the cleaner shrimp I think they would be okay, I would be more concerned about the aggressivness of the cleaner shrimp becase the emperor is really doscile. I have a single sexy shrimp and they get along fine, but I think they are both considered anemone shrimp.... Ive seen some really cool anemone shrimp in different colors and patterns, the common ones are almost completely transparent with a few white spots, they are very cool. I would say if your cleaner gets along with one of those, you should be okay with an emperor.

I think your slugs are stomatella snails. I have a few in my tank also. I like them they are interesting to watch.

Thank you! The Yuma is one of my favorites, it keeps growing too! I had to move a new zoo frag that was getting too close for comfort. It split (or melted) a new shroom off of its foot that is growing quickly and has some cool coloring too......Ill post a close up pic soon.

Thanks! That looks like a match. They are cool to watch, but man they multiply quick. I have started seeing smaller shells in my sandbed appearing, so I think my hermit crabs are keeping the population in check.

here are some shots showing growth progress of some mounted frags, I got these both at the same time and each pic is taken roughly about a month apart form the other. I have had these about 4 or 5 months now.
