I've been offered a 36x24x12 inch tank, it seems a strange size to me, being only 12 inch high. Anyone got any comments on suitabilty for reef system.

If it is 36x12x24, it is a 45 gallon. I don't think it would be a problem. I am doing a full reef in a 37 and it looks great. Plenty of room front to back and it is 30x12x22. As far as aquascaping the rock, you are worried about depth. I have some pretty big rock and still a nice sand area in front of it.

Oh..Yuo said it is only 12" high? Sounds like a mistake, unless it is a custom made tank.

I have a tank that size for my turtles...it isn't 12' high, it's 12' deep. the height of it is 24'. of course it could be custom made as someone else mentioned.

Thats right, only 12 inches high, but 36 inches wide and 24 inches front to back, i believe it was a fish shop display tank, do you think it is workable??

Sure it's workable, no problem at all. Just consider that by the time it is all done the cost of the tank is a small portion of the total system. You may want to spend a little more up front if you are concerned about the appearance of a low tank.
