i am a big fan of oceanic have never purchased any other tank. Recently all the lfs have closed down cept one store i refuse to buy from. so my question is i saw a 55 gallon at wal mart for 150. Has anyone ever had any probs with these tanks cracking, leaking, anything? You know the old saying you get what you pay for, just wondering if anyone out there has used these tanks for years and years with no probs)

I never bought from Walmart but my LFS sold AGA and I never have had a problem with the 55 I bought. Is the walmart a AGA brand?

I have a 55 that I use as a sump (It was a main tank a few years ago). They are O.K. for a basic setup and pretty much the same as other tanks, siliconed glass with brace. The only thing is you can't drill them. I got mine for $75 on sale so it was a no brainer getting it. It hasn't leaked and I doubt it would be any different than other tanks?

My first sw setup after starting again was from wally world, same deal as you are saying. I had that exact setup for a year almost to the day and it worked very well. I added 1 more large hob filter but had a great tank. I also bought a cheap PC light on the

site for it. No problems with mine. Cheap way to get started.

The only "Walmart" tanks I've bough were 10 gallon tank and hood, 29 start up and 55 start up for freshwater only. I don't think you would have problems w/ them leaking b/c I am pretty sure Walmart has a contract w/ AGA. But the start up kits are not for saltwater. I wouldn't forsee a problem w/ leaking.

$150 sound kind of expensive to me. I bought my 75E all glass for $108. If I had to do it all over again I would look for a used setup so I could go bigger.

i've had my walmart 55 for3 years fw and converted to sw and have had it set up for bout 6 months and no problems.......i bought mine for 150 and is a good price only if you use it for fowlr( you'll use tank, heater, lights and hood....everything except filter)............if u plan to use it for reef.(you'll only use tank and heater)......good quality

Although I can't comment on the tank itself, remember that Wal-Mart does not make the tank. If you can find out who the manufacturer is, then base your decision on that. I believe they sell the new AGA starter kits with 10g and 20g tanks.

I work at walmart in the pet department during the summers when Im off school. In 4 years I have never seen a return on ANY tank over 5 gallons and believe me, people like to abuse our loose return policy! I personally own a 55g purchased from walmart and it is no different from any other tank I have owned. If walmarts the best deal, go for it, you wont be dissappointed.

Nothing wrong with Wal Mart tanks by any means. Unless of course bragging rights as to Oceanic or AGA etc mean more. There just as good as any other tank is, even if they do sell for less $$. See its entirely possible to get a decent item without having to pay through the nose for it, or hold to that assinine saying you get what you pay for.

One thing I have noticed about "all" tanks is the quality of glass and especially the thickness they are using now. My Hagen 25 gal is a thick heavy monster. That exact same tank today is half the thickness and weight. That is the only thing that bothers me about all new tanks today.

Wally Worlds glass tanks are all american made....they are also made to secs concerning size shape and capacity, hard as that may be for some to believe. Check em out with the glass thickness calculators that are on line.......which usually have a 50% or more safety margin built into them as well. Often times thinner glass is more expensive than thicker glass.....

I think I might own the very WalMart tank you are talking about! I have had it for over a year and it has endured a move of over 60 miles. I am still using the filter it came with and it works great as well. The heater went out yesterday, but other than that the set-up has treated me really pretty well!
I hope this helps and good luck!
