Then the bottom is tempered, which is pretty well along the lines of what tanks of 55 gal are. The sides are not tempered. Yes you can tell with polarized lenses in some cases. Odds are the person at AGA was the telephone receptionist who is nothing momre than a trained chimp and has a continuity book to look up answers in and was probably on the wrong page or took the safest route in answering....due to knot knowing and not wanting to go to any effort to really find out. AGA states bottoms are tempered on their website........and makes mention of "older tanks" non of which would be in Wal Mart anyhow.......as that was quite awhile ago, years and years ago.
I think all your having is pre drill jitters. Perfectly normal to get paranoid before putting a drill to a piece of glass. :scared:

Well you say receptionist, but i actually got transferred to the manufacturing for aga and they went back and forth yelling across the room to multiple people...the first answer was just the bottom the second answer was walmart tanks have all sides tempered...so its not predrill jitters it is based on what they are telling me...of course they also offered that it may not even be theirs...could be perfecto. Whats the polarized trick?

I go over the top two ways with my undrilled 55 Gal Tank the First is a CPR overflow box. and the second is From a Lifeguard Rainbow filter kit with both ant outflow and a return going over the top of the tank
