I finally got the beginings of my mantis tank today
. I bought a 14 gallon biocube, I picked up a heater and some tehitian moon sand . It was late by time we got home for the day so I havent started to set it up yet . I did take it out of the box and set it on the counter at the breakfast bar where its going to sit . I need to get a few odds and ends later today at walmart. I need to pick up a timer for the lights . I am going to transfer a few pieces of rock from my 75 to give it a little help with the filtration . I might pick up a few extra small pieces of LR to give some construction pieces . I will post pictures of the set up . Look for them later on today .

Funny thing is I have already named the mantis and havent even gotten it yet . lol. I had to go with wanderlei. Because Wanderlei Silva is one of my favorite UFC fighters and is known as an aggresive striker.

I am going to ad a little more rock in there soon. I just want to make sure its the right piece and looks just right in the tank . Its not as easy to hide things in such a small tank .
Boy was it a pain in the rear to zip tie all the cords up and make it look like anything short of a disaster area .

Thanks ! I cant wait either .
And garrner I plan on keeping an O. Scyllarus . I know my tanks not big enough to keep it to full grown . I do plan on an upgrade down the line and then keeping a weanera in this one .

Nice tank
Love the black sand! What size is the peacock you are getting going to be? Gingi is 3 1/2 inches and is all over our tank.

Crash-Is there anyway that a mantis could break your tank? I was under the impression that you needed basically fiberglass to keep them from breaking the tank. Not sure though.

I can't wait to see your new mantis in its new digs. They look like a lot of fun.

Thanks sexyshrimp. They only have larger ones in right now I think the smallest is 4 1/2" . But hard to say what they will have when its done cycling . I dont want to get too big as I want it to be able to live in this tank for a while .
The breaking glass is more of an urban legeand of sorts . While it is a possability . Plexyglass works fine . Most times its from a mantis burrowing and it gets to the bottom of the tank and starts hitting the glass trying to chip away at what it thinks is a rock .

I love it! That black sand is really cool looking. The colors of your Peacock is really going to pop against the sand and black background. Great job! Can't wait for the little monster to arrive :)

There was a poster here called TheJOP with a nice chip in his tank from his Mantis. My 5 incher will randomly walk up to the side of the tank and give it a nice wack. My tank is half inch Acrylic but I have no doubt if it was a standard glass tank I would be in trouble. I think mine is a little on the aggressice side though.
Love the name of yours, Wanderlei is a bad man. I just refer to mine as satan.
