I would recommend for aquascaping that you just buy a bunch of live rock rubble. They are landscapers. Mine always rearranges his burrow. After he dominates a snail he will take the remnants of the shell and place it right where he wants it. He has totally rearranged the tank 3 times over the course of the last year.
I used to put small coral frags in the tank to propogate but he would take them and use them for building so I had to stop.

ok I was going to share this but its actually funny so I figured why not . Keep in mind I have a SW tank set up and running a 75 gallon . In the past I had a 125 that over the years went from a shark/ray tank to a trigger and puffer tank . So in a few ways I have "some" experiance . Well yesterday I made a stupid mistake . I was mixing the nano water and salt together . I was adding the salt right in to the nano a little at a time . I figure there is nothing in there so why not ? Well I am scooping the salt out with a two cup measuring cup and slowly sprinkling it in . Maybe 1/4 cup at a time . Well I get to scoop number 6 and I think well that should be enough to have made 12 gallons I will check it and see where my sg is at .
I was a little shocked to see it was at 1.050. I was like
What in the ___________ ! I stop and think a minute and I am like thats not right . I test it again ! 1.050 dead on the money !
Ok What am I doing wrong ?! ? So I sit a second and I think ...... I put 6 scoops in the tank each scoop should be the right salt amount to make 2 gallons that would only be 12 gallons . My sand doesnt take up that much room does it ? No . 6 scoops should make 12 gallons . . . Wait a minute 1/2 of salt makes 1 gallon of water each scoop holds 2 cups , Thus making 4 gallons of water not 2 . I had added enough salt to make 24 gallons of SW.
Moral of the story is insomnia sucks and robs your brain of vital energy it needs to think . This wasnt the only mess up I caused this weekend . We bought a new koolaid pitcher and it hold two gallons . Yeah guess who tried to make 3 gallons of koolaid .

well back at the begining of the week I tossed in a piece of shrimp to get the cycle going . I checked the perameters today and my amonia is peaking but my nitrates and nitrites are still super low .

wait a few more days..as ur ammonia is converted in the nitrogen cycle you will start to see your nitrates/nitrites spike!

nothing new and exciting going on here yet still cycling trying to work a deal for some live tongan branch rock . It will be going in the back in the filter area to help filtration . Replacing the bio balls.

A mantis shrimp!! That's so cool, I've never seen them in any aquarium stores here...do they have to be kept alone?

That's what I'm talking about! Mixing my two favorite hobbies into one (re: wanderlei and marine tank).
Btw...what triggers/puffers you have in the other tank?

Pretty Much. With mine. I have found that he will coexist with Damsels only id there is an abundant supply of easy food such as hermits, snails, crabs, or shrimp.
When mine is hungry though he'll take a fish, even large mean Four Striped Damsels!! (FTR mine is a 5.5 inch O. Scyllarus.)

Whoa! I'm kinda scared of them...I used to work at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago and one of the shrimps there actually broke two thumbs on one of our aquarists!

Ouch!!! I usually refer to mine as Satan and call his tank, "the Arena of Death." They are truly fascinating creatures and messy ones too!!!!

When are you gonna put the mantis in?
A few more weeks I think . I really want the tank to be wet up the way I want it . dont want to be setting up corals with a pissy mantis shrimp trying to beat me down .

Just took some updated pictures . Uploading them now . I have emailed the supplier and he said they have 60 mantis on order .So I am waiting to see what the shipment is like and see what they have as far as small and personality. I got some LR from a guy tearing down his reef tank and added a few pieces to the nano . There are some nice looking little orange zoo's on one piece trying to pop out . They are growing slow but sure . I added in a turbo snail and a hermit crab to help keep the algea in check . There are 2 tiny starfish that hitch hiked in on the lr .
