Want to start a 10g nanooo...

I have had a 150 and 72 gallon for about a year now, maybe a little more... and I am just NOW setting up a 10g. I'm looking to get familiar with the nano-ness. =)
I'm going to get into seahorses eventually, I have been planning on it. I just don't want to get that far until I have 1. money 2. more experience!

i have a 75 watt metal halide sunpod 20" fixture on it. i love it. the corals look beatiful under the halides, and the sparkle from the reflector is very nice. it also has blue and white leds for night time. much better than the coralife pc 50/50 i had before.
I got my fixture for $104, including shipping! Heck yes! Thanks for the tip!

you are welcome! its a great light!
as for flow, i had a maxijet 400 in there at first. i took it out. it was too much flow for the shrooms. i get a lot of flow off the filter. i was using that filter on a 55 gallon before. so i have no powerhead in there now but everything looks happy.

Do you guys have sumps on your tanks? I'm thinking that a 10 gal sump would help stabilize the water parameters tremendously. Thoughts? I'm thinking of installing at LEAST a 10 gal sump on my 10gal

It is kind of a difficult decision. Clearly, more expenses will be incurred by installing a sump (tank/container, pump, heater if necessary), and it also takes up space. The benefits are pretty good tho. Greatly (I think) "stabilized" system, and easier access to perform water changes upon.
sigh.....decisions, decisions........

Personally, I'm lazy. I don't want to spend the time or money on a sump. Especially when I'm cramped for space living in a small "studio-ish" apartment with my boyfriend. Do you know the strings I had to pull to get him to let me set up my 10g? Haha, I'm not going to push it anymore by asking for more space for it!
If you have the space, time, and money... you should. BUUUUT you could get a really nice filter? haha.
I try not to make too many decisions on my own without SWF.com... for I have only been in the hobby for slightly over a year =)

LOL. It looks like you and I are in somewhat similar positions with our significant others. My wife wasn't thrilled with my decision to start up a SW tank at ALL. Soo...I thought I would be sneaky and start with a nice small little 10 gallon system. The master plan is to grow some some type of kewl coral in there and have one or two really kewl fish. If my diabolical plan works, she will fall in love the the pretty colors, and will be receptive to a future "expansion".

Unfortunately, by adding a big ugly sump system, I will be helping the tank out, but I will also be decreasing the odds of her being receptive for future expansion. I may end up having to go with a reef only setup for the time being with no big ugly sump. Maybe she will eventually declare that having a fish tank with no fish in it is ridiculous, and I'll then have the opportunity to explain that in order to keep fish, we will need to upgrade to a 55g or larger.

i have considered the 10 gallon sump for the 10 gallon. however what i have is working good so im not spending money on it that i could spend on CORAL. yay coral!

HAHA. Sounds EXACTLY like my situation. You see, we direct/run my family business... last january we ripped out the kitchen there. I decided a nice 150g tank would go perfectly in its place =) I'm warming him up to a nice big 180g when we graduate college and get a house. haha.

I would not put a maroon in a 10 gallon, they get up to six inches, mine seemed cramped when I had her in a 20 gallon for a month. Back to the tank though, I have a 10 gallon setup with a Aquaclear 70 on the back for flow, not running anything in it and a 96 watt pc light over it, I do small weekly water changes. Very cheap and easy to run.

I have had this maroon clown fish in a 72 gallon for over a year... The little guy has not grow at all. He is still about an inch. I feed him a very good variety of foods... I just don't think he's going to grow. I think he is a runt or something.
I still haven't decided yet... but I think I'm putting him in there.
