most people go with a sump/fuge so they have room to grow more filtration, which can relieve a little room in the tank for fish..

what kind of fish? u cannot put nearly as many sw fish in a tank as u can freshwater due to the room used for biological filtration. I would read into the fish you wish to stock and go from there.. see what type of water conditions are best for them, etc..

really you just need the biological filtration, whether in the tank or in a fuge.. u have to have waterflow.. how much is going to depend on the fish you want.. some fish like turbulant waters, some need extra filtration such as a shark, etc.. they require special care.
the filters u buy will add on to that filtration

the filter pads and bio balls add to nitrate leavels in salt water tanks That is why most people don,t add them sumps might be nice i don't know I don't want one. My leavels are all 0 so I will stick with what I have. But if you have the room and don't want to worry about flooding your house then a sump might be for you I like the looks of a tank filled to the top with water so that is another reason I have stayed away from the sump. Is there anyone on here with a sump that has not had a wet floor?

I run a Fluval 404 canister filter with my 75. Love it. It is whisper quiet. I also run 2 Aquaclear 50 powerheads. I don't have live rock in my tank "yet", but am going to put about 90 lbs when all said and done. That should be HEFTY amounts of filtration for my fish only tank.
I don't have a skimmer. Not sure I need one. I thought they were mostly for coral and inverts.
