Wanting to set up a fuge

I have toyed with this idea before, and once again I am back to it. I have a 75 gallon tank, and sort of a strange design to it. Water is about 5 inches below actual top of tank and it is not made to have the water be higher. There are holes drilled on each side at the tops for cords to feed through and there are shelves around 4 inches from the top going around the inside edge of the tank. Tank was originally supposed to have all equipment inside tank. Its called a DAS tank. I have made some changes to the tank and do not use it like this. Unfortuneatley it has made it difficult to add some equipment. I cannot use any type of hang on the back equipment due to the drop and most equipment for hang of the back cannot draw the water back up. I am currently using a cannister filter( a not so great one might I add-a Jebo
). I have the intake and the out take simply hooked those two holes meant for the cords. Last night when cleaning the tank and equipment, the canister starting leaking. Most likely just needs an easy fix but I look at this as an opp. to go better. I have a 19 gallon tank set up right now (has been set up for 2 years) has live sand and about 30 lbs of live rock and one clown fish. I was planning on taking this tank down this week and adding the sand rock and fish into my 75 gallon. Now I'm thinking I could use this. The tank is too large to go under my 75 gallon stand. I'm thinking of setting it up next to my 75 gallon. Could this still be used in that same sense as a fuge and is there a way of doing this without changing much on the 75. I am not much of a technical kind of person and if I can use existing equipment that would be great. I have a RIO1200 pump not in use that does have a control valve, I have the (?1 inch) green tubing that is currently feeding in and out of the canister that could be potentially used, I have a hang on the back prism skimmer that could be used on the 19 gallon or a different tank. Thanks for the help!

The only problem I see is how are you going to get the water out of the DT, you can't use a pump to pump it out because you'll end up with a flood. The only ways I can see to do this would be to use the custom DIY pvc overflow plans from this site and modify it for your tank setup, or Drill the tank below the water line and install a bulkhead and internal overflow which can be a scary proposition.
Can you get us some pics? Maybe that will provide some other options

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of doing this because my husband (very sweet, but unknowing) drove two hours to a pet store and bought me a mandarin fish. I recently lost all of my fish and alot of coral to a massive power outage from an icestorm. My tank is quite established and does have pods, but will not last long. I think I am going to just use that other tank separtely for the only purpose of breeding pods and algae. I posted that on the reef forum to see what thoughts were. That seems the easiest solution right now. I can put an order in on this site today for the pods. Thanks for the reply.
