war of the worlds movie

saw it today b/c older mom is from that whole generation. it was pretty bad. lots of action, made me want to never be more than an arms reach from my gf, but it was hastily put together. there were so many mistakes i couldn't believe speilberg put his name on it. no wonder tom cruise had to get into a publicity relationship quickly.
i won't give away anything big, but at one point everything stops working including his windup watch. yet some guy has a magic camcorder that he drops and they make a point of zooming in on it's screen still working. TONS of little stupid quirky mistakes like this bothered me.
terrible waste of my money, i'd wait for the rental if you don't see every movie at the theatre.

I wouldn't want to see any movie starring T.C. What a nut job! I guess joining a freaky cult will take its toll on you, eventually...too bad...

The movie started off excellent, but then fizzled out toward the end, and the ending scene was a tad lame. Bottom line, it makes you think: What if? All of the visualizations envoke a degree of fear and anxiety seeing humans slughtered like ants. I would have liked a more inspiring, emotional ending, like the one on Independence Day. But a good flick anyway. The special effects where the kind that stick in your mind, and did represent the machines in the orginal story.
And speaking of what if? Why in the world did we sent out a record and map of our location in space for aliens to pick up if they are out there???? This never made much sense to me. Maybe I'm just paranoid, or too much of a Si-Fi fan.
Anyone notice how Hollywood has run out good material and now is recreating old movies?

Would this movie be appropriate for kids who are 8 and 10? My boys have been asking me to take them and I'm just not sure. :notsure: They saw The Day After Tomorrow last year and were just fine with that.

It is rated PG13 but there are some pretty intense sences of mass annilation of the human race....mind you, no blood and guts, but rather, dust, as the aliens laser blast humans to smithereens pulverizing them into dust. Its pretty intense and graphic. On the other hand, War of the Worlds is a clasic HG Wells. I guess it depends on how much your kids are effected by movies. These days, I can't imagine most 8-10 yr olds not seeing it.
This is nothing like Day After where you really didn't see too much dying.

I saw it last nite and I liked it. There were little things here and there that we were like yea right, come on. But overall it's a good movie, great special fx... I'd see it again. If Tom gets sick of Katie in a few more years he can hook up with Dakota Fanning, lol.

My wife and I got out tonight and saw it. I thought it was a pretty good movie. The effects were awesome. I'm not a huge Tom Cruise fan, but he does pretty darn good movies. He was really good in The Last Samurai.

Movie was ok...it was not a floater nor a sinker...Original B/W was better!
Is it me or did any of you do the same thing and said out loud in the theater: "Dude! Tom Cruise throws like a 8 year old little ballerina!!!" during the father and son catch scene in the backyard.

I saw some show on VH1 about movie mistakes and they were saying how almost everyone of Spielberg's movies have mistakes in them and he doesn't care as long as the scene works as far as capturing the audience, so chances are pretty good he knew all about the lil screw ups, he just didn't care. His movies are still awesome!!
