Warning, another hoax product on EBAY!!

Hi, I saw a product on ---- saying that it will add detrivores to your system through some liquid in a bottle. It sounded like BS from the begining.
http://cgi.----.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=2385409805
So I emailed him and tried asking a few questions to see how he responds. Heres the conversation:
Me: Hi, I was intersted in this item, but am unsure of its contents. It says its a liquid but also say it has pods and can be kept for a while to dose your tank with. So is this just a liquid food that will make your detrivores reproduce faster, or does it actually have live pods and worms in it? And if so, why wouldnt you just add it all to your sandbed at once.
Him: it is the larva egg that can, can grow the things listed on the page. this is in liquid, if it settles a little while you see a build up of it on the bottom.
Me: So it can grow it. Does that mean that it might not?
Him: if the tank is set up with some live rock and corals and is been running for some months with the right lighting watts it will grow. I only say it can because everyone takes care of there tanks in difftent manors
Me: Sorry if i seem skeptical. It sounds really god but I have never heard of a product such as this. Is there any gaurantee that it will work? I am looking for a way to seed my fuge that I put it. In it, there is 4 inch sand bad, 15 lbs of LR rubble, cheato macro and a 65 watt 6500k light over it. So is this the larval egg of one sopecies or is it different things?
If it setup a tank to culture it, setup exactly like the fuge except with base rock (instead of live that might already have life on it), would there definatly be life in a few weeks using your product?
Him: I think your better off night buying it I do not know how you take care of your tank, and I can not garuante any thing. sorry
So sound like a load of BS to me. What do you guys think? And has anybody here bought this thing?

I check his feedback and people are buying his product. There is no negative feedback so I guess people are happy with the product. I might not be correct because it just feedback if he get the item to his buyers. I don't see any response feedbacks from the customers so I am not sure. You might email him to see if any customers wrote back to him saying the product work. Just my thought.

Feedback is given at the end of the auction when the transaction is over. Not a few months later to see if the product was any good. And once it is given, it cn not be given again,. SO good feedback just means that he is diligent in responding to orders, not the the product works.

PLUS, positive feedback can be falsified. We were in a ---- situation (long story) and the guy had set up a few 2-3 day auctions. Rigged it so he knew the person bidding (shilling).
anyway, you have to listen to your gut, and its telling you not to buy it. I forgot to look, did he show an actual pic of what hes sending you?

I think he knows that you know a lot about what you are looking for. Thus the reason he told you not to buy. I think you would probably get a jar of water with some sand in it and nothing came of it, he could say it was becasue of your tank.
plus, did you see the Gulf sand he is selling? Where the heck did he get that?

Well I may be stupid but I bought a bottle of this stuff. It comes in a little clear squirt bottle with no label. About 10 oz.s Its a slight yellow color and just a little thicker than water. It has a fish egg smell to it ,if you have ever smelled like salmon eggs out of a fish just caught. And when it settles for a hour or so there is some very small particals that form on the bottom of the bottle. I am trying it because if it works that will be great , but if not I have spent alot more money on other things that didn't work, but people still sware by. So if it works I'll let you know.

Do you have an extra tank you could try this in? Because if not, these organisms will be present in your tank no matter what. But if you could setup a new 5 gallon tank or something, with dry base rock and dry sand, then that is the only way you will be able to know for sure if it works.
It sounds from your description, it doesnt sound like anything more than dried phytoplankton mixed in a bit of old water.
And no, you are not dumb. Just uninformed and I am guessing a bit new. SO dont worry about. People have spent more for much less.

No I'm not new. I have had my tank for over 5 years. I just lost most of my detrovores and such a year ago when I had to move. the sand and rock had gotten to cold. So now I have many worms in my sub. but I'm looking to get back the micro stars and such like I used to have. And they multiply in our reef tanks once introduce , so whos to say that this guy dosn't really know how to get it out of the water colum and into a bottle. I just feel there is a good chance that it will work. And I know my tank well enough to see if anything new is growing or not. And to find a good detrivore kit seems hard to find and you still don't know what your going to get. I don't have a lfs that carries and saltwater stuff near me. The closet one is a 2 hour drive for me. I was going to try Garf grundge but I was warned by people on here that is wasn't any good. I'm just trying to improve my tank ....and try something new. Someone had to be the first to realise that bristle worms were good also...

Well good luck. Its just his answers to my questions are very elusive and not straight forward. And once he could tell that I actually understood how things work, he said I should not buy. If he belived in his product, he would have been more confident about it. I'll bet to a person that just said "I just setup a tank. Will thios add detrivores on my sand and LR" he wouldn've responded with a yes. And I really doubt that the eggs of all these different detrivores are free floating and can be bottled, plus sotred for a year. If it really was a product with all the larval eggs as he calls it, I dont think it would survive that long. Even DTs has an expeiration date.
I didnt meant o offend you and I would love to be proven wrong. But I doubt I am in this matter unfortunatly. But if it does work, let us know.

Bumping so people can read this and not get sucked in. Even the pic of the setup with the rubbermaid bins are stolen from someone the -- forum. I started a link there if anyone wants to read it, email me at dymatech@yahoo.com_nospam

A little update. Especially for BLK,
This guy has since been forced to remove his product. I few others have tested it and it seems all that is in it is some cyno, high nitrates and not much else.
he is being sued by 2 different people. One for the pics and one for the name is desription of the product.

brother....makes one wonder where he got the sand he is selling.
Probably right from the beach and FULL of horrible stuff for your tank.
:nope:

Someone got a bag of that too and tested it. There was liquid in there, but no salt content. And he acutally said it was sweet smelling. So maybe its just southdown and he was gonna mix with salt, but added sugar by accident and selling it as LS.
