Warning if considering anemone

This is my experience:
I bought a BTA monday. I knew they moved around but did not realize when and how much. I thought a BTA would move during the day and get in a good place for light and water flow. WRONG
My BTA stayed put all day long. The night hits and it is all over the tank (75 gallon). After moving everywhere all night it decides to place itself in the most dark and least flow area in my tank???? Then when the lights come back on, it doesn't move to a place of light and water flow?
So it is killing itself!

I move the rock it was on and placed it in a great location. The next night it repeats and once again goes into another place that it will kill itself. Next day I dont move it and it stays in this different dark hole all day.
What a hassle!

Plus my clowns dont host to it, and it moves so much that if I got corals it would bother or kill them; so anyone need an anemone? Back to the fish store tomorrow!

if it is moving then it is not happy and if it will not settle it is going to have problems and it will probably die but anemones are touchy and can be difficult to care for because it takes near perfect conditions to make them happy...how about some info on your tank to see it may be wondering so much....bta's like crevices to hide their foot and also low to medium flow but high light so how much live rock, type of lights, type of return pump/powerheads, tank size, inhabitants, tank parameters ammonia, trite, trate, ph, calcium, dkh

oh and clowns dont host they inhabit the anemone actually host but tank raised clowns dont always take to an anemone...as much as everyone would like them to sometimes they just dont and if they do it will take some time...and also continuing to move and pick with the anemone is going to stress it out and will more than likely kill it

Why do they call it host? I think its symbiotic.
The anemone is larger, protects the clown. The clown just helps with the anemone food. Anemone will live without the fish but the fish will be eaten without it.

I got 75 gallon tank
80 lb Live rock
80 lb of live sand
x10 flow rate
t-5 hagen 48" 216 Watts
2 clowns & 1 coral beauty shrimp (cleaner & coral banded)
Ammonia - 0
Trite - 0
Trate - very low
ph - 8.2
cal - a little bit low 350 range
dkh - 10
It was in a perfect spot during the day and it never moved. Beautiful coloring and eating great. Lights go out and then it goes in dark hole? Wont be long it will be dead or something. I just wanted it for the clown fish and I am being honest; this is just a hassle, and it is not worth worrying about cause the fish are fine without it. Thanks but it is going bye bye!

One problem I see is trying to force it somewhere, he will find a spot he likes. Mine did the same thing, my BTA and Condy right now are under a rock, they will come out and choose a spot when they are ready. Also how long has your tank been set up?

it is a symbiotic relationship but people tend to call it hosting cuz somewhere along the line someone that didnt know any better started calling it that and it spread because the clowns made the anemone a home...i think when it comes to aquariums "host" is a generic term so that most people that dont know any better and it is said the anemone host the clown fish because the fish are a "guest" in the anemones territory not the anemone in the fish territory...hence the generic term of host

with only 216w of lights over a 48" spread and 16 or 18 inch depth is not very intense and even though you think it was in a perfect spot with light and flow the light intensity could be the problem...not to mention you have barely had it a week or not even a full week....but like this hobby everything is about patience and if you dont have it then it is a good idea to return it to the store

when you first get an anenome they can take a few weeks to feel comfortable and find the right spot. BTAs dont really kill themselves like bahamian purple tip condy's and some others are known to do. dont go moving rocks around to help it, let it help itself, it should be fine. if the fit is gripping, that is a good sign.

If your tank is only a week old you should not have an anenome. They need a well established tank of at least 6 months if it dies it can kill off a lot in your tank you should take it back

he said he has had his anemone for a week, not his tank.
and to the OP, just give it some time, it should adjust it self in the tank. i also just got a BTA, and im just giving it time as well, since mine opens more at night then it does with the lights on. lol. the good thing about an anemone is it will move if it doesnt like its spot, unlike a coral where you have to guess around.
