washing out a tank

Sorry if I posted in the wrong forum.
Can anybody tell be what kind of solution to use to clean a tank? what has been in storage for a year. it is a glass tank and it has some water marks on the glass and some dust <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" />

I would buy a new scrubber and clean it out.
I don't know of any chemicals.

depends...what was in it before; were chemicals ever added to it? you may have to fill it & make sure it's still water tight & maybe test for certain chemicals if you whether they were added or not...

I have used just plain hot water to rinse my tanks. If those water marks however won't come off though then you'll have to resort to some sort of chemical to remove them. Naturally then really rinse the heck out of it.

When I cleaned out my acryllic 90, I used hot water and a bit of soap. Then sprayed the heck out of it to make sure there was no soap residue.

Don't use any chemicles, for some may stay in the tank, and may poison your fish in the future. What I like to do is first go around it a couple of times in hot water, then go around in cold water. Hot water has chemicles in the water which makes it hot, and these chemicles can stay in your tank, so you use the chemicle free water to soak all of that out. Good luck!

Triggs there are chemicals that make hot water hot? Where did you get this information? So are there chemicals in "chemical fee water" when it is heated, say on the stove?

ok when i clean (kill) my tanks i ist fill them with water then i add bleach to the water (chlorine kills everything) depending on the tank size normally no more than a couple of cups. i then let the tank run for a day (no bio-wheels) then the next day i drain the tank please do not put the water on the lawn (don't ask trust me on that one) septic tanks either alley or streets are good. fill the tank with water again and add chlorine remover let it run for a day drain it again (anywhere this time) fill it up again drain again fill drain and fill for the final time or u can drain again then fill for the final time. oh by the way you wanna scrub the tank while the bleach is in there and scrub when u put the chlorine remover is in it and if you have water stains still use fresh water salt works wonders at time.
