this is a house fire we worked on tuesday night.the owner which is a friend of a friend of mine.my friend keeps his horses on this property and i have been there a few times to see the horses.he had his chimneys cleaned by a suppose professional a few days prior to this happening.the fire Marshall said the fire in the fire place started the blaze but they need to investigate more to see what exactly happened inside the chimney.
so make sure you fireplaces are safe this winter or this could be your home.

You know I have a fireplace, but rarely use it. I had it cleaned about 3 years ago, and probably only used it once since. Was thinking using it during the Holidays. Is there any reason to have it inspected? It really hasn't been used since last cleaning.

as far as i know you should be ok.its the build up from fires that chokes the flume.but be careful when you start a first fire as dust that has been accumulating can back flash.so start a small fire at first to burn off the dust collected in the chimney.
we moved to a house without a fireplace it sucks because our last home had a huge wood burner fireplace we used 5 days a week .really miss it

3 years is a long time though, I might be tempted to take a look at it up on the roof and make sure nothing has built a nest in it just to be safe. No fire, but if it is blocked it will make a lot of smoke.
