can a yellow watchman goby be kept in a tank w/cc as the substrate? I heard they like to burrow in the sand for safety?

Mine doesn't really burrow in my sand he hollows out a spot under a big rock... i think they could still do that in CC. Give it a try.

I have crushed coral and a watchman goby. Mine is doing great, he hides under a rock in the crushed coral. I have had him for months now and is very healthy.

Thanks for the input! What does it eat? I had a mandrin goby & it wouldn't eat & died. I'm a little fearful about getting another goby

The mandarine is a dragonette and very different than a watchman goby. A dragonette will often only eat live pods or can sometimes eat frozen foods in addition to pods. Scooter blenny's are also a type of dragonette, and if you do not have a large population of pods should be avoided as well.

I love mine. He is only an 1 1/2 inches long. he has this one rock that he lives under. Its the funniest thing because there are about 5 different holes that he pops his head out form under the rock. Its like a house under there with rooms! lol.

I have a Bluespot Watchman paired with a Caribbean and Candy Cane Pistol Shrimp. It's really amusing to watch.
The only kinda tough thing is that I have to use a turkey baster to feed near their cave. The Goby's not willing to venture very fair from the cave after he's been paired with Pistol Shrimp. Like I <3FISH said, he peeks his head out and looks all over the place though. It's kinda amazing how fast he can go from hole to hole.

What do you mean? Gobys never leave the bottom. It kind of funny after I acclimated him because when I put him in the main tank, he just floated down to the bottom, made a burrow under a rock, and then peaks his head out and watches... hence the name Watchmen Goby. I have only had my Goby for almost 2 weeks, and he will verture out a little ways to get food. And if he doesnt, then when he is hungry enough, he will get out of his hole for food. But the current usually blows the food right to him. lol

of course they don't leave the bottom third of the tank. i meant that it doesn't venture out from its hiding places.

Yeah, the farthest mine has vertured was about a foot from his hole. Maybe a little less. But he is with big fsh (Tangs, Buttferflys, ect.) and he is only an inch and a half long! Hopefully he will be venturing from rock to rock when he gets bigger.
