Water change in BC29

Hi all,
What do you think will be better, a 2 1/2gal. water change every week or a 5gal. change every other week for a BC29. I'm thinking about doing the first option. Is 2 1/2gal. enough? The person who I bought the BC from did the second option. Just want to get peoples opinions.
TIA

Hmmm... I don't know what other BC29 owners do, but I do a weekly 5 gallon water change on mine.
I'm interested in finding out what others are doing.

I do the 5 gal bi-weekly water change. However, you aren't going to know what works for you until you try it. And make sure you keep up with the tests until you see what works best. Good luck!

I use 2.5 gallon of NSW (2.2 gal jug, plus .3 gal of R/O to reduce salinity because the NSW jug says that it's supposed to be 1.027, but when I use my refractometer, I always get 1.030) and I use 2.5 gallon of water from a mixed batch that our maintenance company uses to maintain the 225 gallon FOWLR tank out front.
I do the 5 gallon weekly water change because of my bioload; 4 fish and a tank full of softies. Though I will have to see how my xenia does. After Monday, I will have 4 different kinds of xenia and I hear that they like the water to be a little "dirtier", so we'll see!~

so much cheaper to just make your own water. 1/2 cup of salt per gallon will get you to about 1.025. All u need is a 5gallon bucket powerhead and a heater.

Your water tests are going to determine what you will be able to get away with as far as water change amount and frequency. If you filter heavily, skim, dont have a heavy bioload and keep up on cleaning filter sponges and dont over feed, you could be ok with a 5 gal water change every 2 weeks. I do a 5 gal every week, its just what I started doing and what is habit to me. It wont hurt to do more frequent changes it just might not be necessary..

I agree with yerboy.
I'm surprise so many people purchase pre-mixed water. I'm just not that trusting!

It also seems a bit steep to do it that way, however, I suppose for some, it's convenient.
I mix mine using HWpro in a 5 gal bucket with an airstone and heater. Do you guys feel it is just as important to use a certain salt mix as how often it is changed? Not to highjack the thread, just curious.

I also have the Biocube 29 and I change 5 gallons every week, I mix my own water using RODI water and Reef Crystals salt mix. If you have a light load I am sure that every other week would be plenty, but I have a heavy load and like to have great water quality. I run the Oceanic Nano Skimmer in mine also. I also agree that buying premixed water is way more expensive and also more of a chance. I mix mine in a 5 gallon bucket and run a small powerhead and a heater in the bucket overnight. I also test my Nitrate, Calcium, Phosphate and Hardness every other day. Hope this helps in your decision.

Where so you get your 2.5 gallon jugs of NSW from Kat?

NSW doesn't make a 2.5 gallon jug. They make the 2.2 gal and the 4.4 gal. I take the 2.2 gal and add .3 of RO/DI water to reduce the salinity. Every time I've tested the NSW with my refractometer, it reads 1.030.
I buy pre-mixed because my tank is in my office in a healthcare facility. I don't have the room or time to use buckets and stuff to mix my own water, so it's more convenient for me. Sooo... I use one jug of NSW and 2.5 gal of the water that our maintenance company mixes for our FOWLR tank. Works for me!~

I am doing a 5 gallon change as well every week. I mix my own RO/DI water and salt in a 5 gallon bucket with a powerhead. My tank is new (only 1 fish and a cuc) but I amfinding it keeps everything at appropriate levels.

I do about 1 gallon per week on my 14 gallon and my tank seems to prefer the aged water.
Also, when I topoff with RO because of evaporation, I pour the fresh RO directly on my corals. On accident one day, I hit a shroom with fresh RO and it puffed up and looked really happy. Ever since then I always do it.

I do daily 2 quart changes on my BC29. I have a RO unit at the sink and a premeasured jug(that fits into the tank without removing the lid). Add 1/4 cup salt and shake. Takes 30 seconds to fill and mix and I let it dissolve while I feed the dogs. When it's fully dissolved, I pour into the second chamber. Extremely easy and I don't have to dose anything. I also don't have to mess with siphoning or buckets.
