OK so i did a water change today. I added a powder calcium hydroxide supliment to the new water plus the salt mix. Now my water in the tank is incredibly foggy.
I cannot see anything in the tank unless it comes cclose to the glass.
Does anyone know if this is normal for the addition of Kalkiswasser (spelling) and instant ocean salt mix, or did i do something wrong?:scared:

not sure about the chemistry, but? how long from when you mixed the salt to when you poured it in? did you pour it over the sand? what color is the cloud?

I mixed it till i thought there was none on the bottom. Though some could have settled. it is a white cloudy color. I bet i should have waited for the salt to dissolve. I have already added this to my tank, I have a few small corals and a clown. Will this hurt my creatures?

do a water test on your tank....ph, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, salinity and if they are ok, then it is just fog from pouring too fast, and the chemicals mixing. just let it go a day or so and keep on checking your levels. what was the purpose on adding the calcium hydroxide?

I bet it's the sand as well. Best bet it to pour in on a powerhead displacing the water...least that's what i do

I added it through a small straw like tube and a siphon action right intot he flow of the power head. It was added slowly...not on the sand. The calcium was low in my tank so i added a little to boost it. salinity is 1.024. All water perams are ok

The biggest mistake i ever made was adding more sand to my tank i didn't rinse out. For 48 hours The tank was exactly how you are discribing and all my fish lived :)
Good Luck to you

What your saying is that you added powdered Kalkwasser and didn't let it settle??
How much did you add and to how much water??

Make sure a power head did not slip causing a sand storm. It has happened to me a few times. It may still be resting near or pointing towards the bottom causing a stir.

When you add kalk, you are supposed to mix the kalk then let it settle to the bottum. It usually takes a few hours. The more still the surface, the better. Then you add all BUT what fell to the bottum. The actual liquid you add should be clear, if it's not, it's not ready to be added. DON'T add any more calcium until you can test your calcium levels.
If that is what you have in your tank, I don't know how long it takes to clear, but I would definately do a water change!!

Oh wait till kip and bang hear about this.
Do not use that water! Normally you only put 2 tsp per gallon into some RO/DI water, and that mixes up with a pH of 12. Sounds like you just had a massive precipitation event.
Oh crap you used it.
Check your inverts and let me know whats happening. And get another water change ready without adding kalk.

When mixing water for water changes only add salt to the water, nothing else.
Kalk is supposed to be added to fresh water and dripped into the tank slowly.
