Water Change Process

I'm probably making this process more difficult than needed and I'd appreciate any idea's to make this process easier. My tank doesn't have a sump yet so I'm starting off with a harder process to begin with but here goes.
1. The day before a water change I mix up my saltwater in an old 30 tall tank with a heater and powerhead.
2. I test the SG a few hours later and adjust if necessary.
3. I test SG, ph, and calcium a few hours before water change.
4. Adjust SG and dose calcium if necessary.
5. Syphon water from tank into 5 gallon bucket (sometimes cleaning CC substrate). Usually do 10 gallons (85 gallon tank).
6. Syphon new water into 5 gallon buckets - set buckets on top of 4 ft ladder and syphon into tank.
Step 6 is particularly difficult and between step 5 and 6 I usually have at least one spill on the carpet and I'm sure the salt is not great for carpet wear.
So there you have it. I hope I'm not doing anything incredibly dense but I'd appreciate any tips that will make this easier.

instead of putting the tank on a 6foot ladder why don't you use a powerhead and attach a airline tube to the end of it. (Drop the powerhead in the NEW water and use the pump to do the change)
Goodluck

Just hope your pump/powerhead is powerful enough to push the water from the floor to the tank. Mine has to be lifted to get started, then it seems to work fine after that. Stupid Rio 90!

I just pump the water into my sump and let my return pump send it up to the tank. then when the return pump catches up to the extra water in the sump, I'll start my overflow drain again.
