Water Change Question

When you change your water do you blow off all the rocks with a turkey baster first then suck up all the floating debris? Thats what I do but wonder if its too stressful on the fish.

I have 3 Powerheads in a 46 gallon. You think I need more. The flow seems pretty good.

i would blow it off first with a turkey baster then suck up the debris off the water. But i wouldn't do it in every waterchange though, you shouln't have much debris unless you have a lot of sandstorms or you don't have enuf flow in the right directions or your clean up crew is low.. just don't do too much blowing-off until your tank gets totally cloudy.

It looks like dust when I do it. I don't know what it is exactly. Humm, I thought this was normal.

Well my clean up crew consists of a couple of electric blue legs and red crabs. I have a zillion small baby purple snails (all hitch hikers) about 8 large snails, 2 nassarius snails (useless, under sand 24/7 till they smell food) and thats really it. I got rid of he largers hermits because they were getting destructive.

Sounds like your powerheads are not creating enough flow. Try re-arranging them. Detritus on your rocks equals nitrate factory.
