Water Change

My 50g FOWLS finished cycling 2 weeks ago. I was wondering when I should do the first water change. The tank looks great and ammo and nitrite are zero w/ nitrate at 2.5. The bioload is relatively small w/ only a Perc., long nosed hawk, and scooter blennie in it.

You could do a small 20-25% change now if you want,but my belief is it is not needed till the nitrates get up around 40ppm. Some say that the cycle is very hard on the trace elements,and that by the time this cycle is done there are little to no trace elements left.But there are addatives that only replace the trace elements.I would rather just add this instead of doing a change at this point.

I waited a month before I did mty first water change. It seemed like alot of people did the same when I asked this question. I also change my filter media a week after the water change. Good luck.
