water conditioner makes my skimmer crazy

I added water conditioner when I did my water change but now my Remora Pro is skimming like crazy. I have almost 3 gallons of clear water that was removed from the skimmer. I've heard water conditioners can do this. Should I shut off my skimmer for a few days when doing water changes?

What are you using for a "water conditioner"? Many additives will cause skimmers to foam like crazy as they will remove your additive.
Why are you using a conditioner?

Most "Stress Coats" are composed primarily of protein. Hence your skimmer is going crazy.

I'm using Tetra AquaSafe to remove chlorine and heavy metals. Is there something I should use instead?

Use a RO/DI unit or buy distilled water... a clean water source is very important.
