Water Flow

So as not to hijack the previous thread: I have a 120g with a Sequence Dart pump plumbed to my sump/refug, with the head pressure I am getting approximately 2000-2400gphr. But I still have some dead spots behind my LR, so I am going to add a Tunze 6060 to flow along the back wall. It puts out 1600gphr. That would bring me to almost 30x turnover, is that to much? Any help would be appreciated.

dead spot? or low flow? IMO it all depends on what you have in your reef and what they need...
I have a 180g room divider (visible from 3 sides) with the overflow on the extreme left end. I have a mag-drive 3600 pushing across 8ft.
Of course it's not good to have DEAD spots but low flow might be ok as long as you "plant" low flow corals.
IMO again...the more turnover (not extreme...like 50x's) the better your water will be oxygenated and the faster you can distribute your supplements.
Sounds like you have a great tank! with great equip!

Thanks for the reply and the props. I believe in having quality equipment. I plan on having in the future, Acros, clams, other SPS. I got the Tunze today and now have to order the magnet holder because there is no other way to mount it to my tank. Oh well what is another 30-40 bucks at this point.

That doesn't sound like too much flow at all.
What is your substrate in this tank? In my experience, the Tunze Streams are awfully good at kicking up sand if they're not properly placed. By the way, the Tunze magnets are well worth the money. I've got a pair of them holding up a Wavebox, and I just couldn't imagine their standard mounting hardware keeping this thing in place!

Tunize mags are the best!!! I just got the one made for the 3/4 inch glass! it takes off coraline on the glass!!!
However I did manage to scratch the glass when I got some sand in between

Here's a recommendation...go to your local major pet supplier and pick up a that bag they use to hold blood worms ($0.49)...it's made of nylon and slip that on your mag...it's a perfect fit and workes great like a brillo pad and coraline comes off sooo easy
