Water for your tanks

I was wondering what people are using for their water besides RO. I want to do a FOWLR tank for a year or 2 before I go to reef. I'm not ready to spend the money on an RO unit until I go reef so I was wondering what else people are using? filters, treatments?

You dont necessairily have to have your own ro/di unit, check with the lfs's in your area. The one that i work at sells ro water at 30 cents per gallon. If you cant find it at your lfs, you can try walmart, or major grocery chain stores, as most of them also sell ro water in the form of drinking water in large 5 gallon jugs. As a last resort, you could get a tap purifier that attatches to your faucet, so there are lots of options to get you started. Just dont use distilled water, as it has absolutely nothign in it in the form of nutrients.

I haven't eliminated the idea of buying RO water, I can get it for $.20 a gallon, but I'm looking at a 90 gal tank or larger, and I'm not sure I want to carry that much water, plus the tank will be in the basement meaning stairs as well.
