Water Level Shutoff

Hi all---anyone have any experience with auto water level shutoff setups?
Since replacing my glass top with eggcrate my sump level drops(predictably) about a gal a day. While this is no problem now, I need to figure something out before vacation season starts.
I would like to run the blue line directly from my ro/di unit directly to my sump. I have seen several different types (mechanical and electronic)-are both reliable?
With a shut off, does the ro unit remain pressurized 24/7 when it is not flowing? and is this harmful to the membrane?
Thoughts??

When using an autoshutoff you need to make sure you get the autoshutoff kit for your RO that shuts the water off at the source, not after the RO. If you shut it off after the RO the waste line will just pour out the water at a very increased rate.
I've used the gravity version for about 10 years and it hasn't failed.

No this unit goes between the tank and RO unit. You take the output from your RO to one side of the control box. The other side comes out of the control box to the tank.

so is there a system that will actually shut off the water pressure to the ro unit?
I'm concerned with keeping constant water pressure on the ro membrane.
If the ro unit is not allowed to discharge product water won't the pressure cause the unit to dump waste on a continuous basis?

Just to be safe I would talk to a supplier of RO units. My answer would be no. It will not bother the membrane but the unit must have an auto shut off. I have been using mine for 5 months with no issues. Just to be safe I would replace the membrane every year anyway.

Yep.
The item you need is a pressure sensative valve that connects to the input side of your RO.

All of our machines come with an automatic shut-off valve. This valve when used with a float valve in your storage tank makes your water production totally automatic. The automatic shut-off valve will stop the flow of water to the system when the float valve closes. AKA known as the automatic top off valve.
I tried to post the picture but I could not.

I use the Tunze top up system, great system and much more accurate. Also the main sensor is infra-red so no issues with salt build up, like on the others that use the floater sensor.

I use the same system and it works great. The difference with this system is that it won't work directly from your RO unit, the sensor turns a pump on and off. So, you need a holding tank for the topoff water, with the Tunze pump down in the holding tank and when it turns on, it pumps the water out of the holding tank to your display tank (or sump in my case).
