Had a guy from Rain Soft come out and check my water and try and sell me a $6,000 dollar water softener lol..
Anyway i found out my TAP water has no nitrates at all, but my water is extremely hard...
IM NOT BUYING THE RAIN SOFT WATER SOFTENER
but you can get the same system from Home Depot for $400 so i was thinking of getting that, with this system would i still need to buy purified water or use a RO filter?

Water softeners exchange one ion for another, they don't reduce the total number of ions in the water. It would be best to get RO/DI for your tank, (and drinking water, softened water tastes nasty! I would never get a softener system added to my house without an RO/DI tap for the kitchen and bathroom sinks.)

Maybe it depends on what water you start with. The water softener I'm most familiar with is the one that came with my parent's new house in another state.

You might want to check on phosphates also and the water softener's ability to remove them (i dont think they do).
A RODI will remove phosphates which are a major contributer to stuff like cyano.
