ive heard both stories that if you use tap water and de chloinate it salt it let it filter couple days you shoiuld be alright , then i see alot of stuff about not useing tap water my tanks been running 3 weeks and is ok so far . am i heading for trouble later because i used tap water

In all honesty, it really depends on the quality of water in your area. Every municipality is responsible for supplying water to its city and often many municipalities get their water from the same source. The difference is that sometimes some treat their water better than others. If you have well water thats another situation and it depends upon how many filters you have and how your water softener functions.
Check your own tap water for everything and you'll get your answer. If you check your tap water and discover that all the parameters are the same or similiar to R/O water use it. Just be mindful!

If the water tests OK,all this is really not needed.I have allways used tap water(city) and never had any problems.I just let it sit overnight in a bucket with a powerhead in it.Then mix the salt and use it right away.No need to let it sit more than 24 hours before using..
