I have well water at my house and we also have a softener with potassium to remove the iron. Can I still use my home water, or should I just buy bottled??

I'm no water expert, but I would say your safest just buying some RO water from a local grocery store. Its only like 37 cents a gallon. I know it can be a pain to haul 50 gallons or so of it (been there) but the good news is after the initial tank fill its not that bad

I would buy a RO/DI unit to purify your own water or buy distilled or RO/DI water. Well water can be full of stuff that causes problems in reefs or fish only tanks...

i've never tested my water at home. i don't have a tank yet but would like to start with a FO tank and maybe work up to a reef tank. i thought it would be to risky to use home water but it never hurts to ask. thanks!:happyfish

IMO if you decide to get into this hobbie, not as just a passing fad ,then I would buy a RO/DI unit. They are well worth the cost and the water is just what you want without all the -#$%. You can also hook it up so your family can use the system for drinking and a sump for your fish water.
