Water Temp

My 90 Gallon tank has been up for 3 months.
Today room temperature is 75. But my tank water temperature is 83.3 degrees!!!
so what should I do? My heater is off.
I have a sump and water surface is very well disturbed.
I don't know what is causing this high temperature. I have put my hand and felt every piece of equipment in the tank, non of which seems to be hot.
What else could be causing the high water temperature?
Please help.

Wow, tank must be possessed!! It is weird that it just jumped like that in one day. Maybe you have a powerhead overheating or your heater is stuck on?

Are you sure the heater is off? Unplug it to be sure. If it's a reef tank, 83.3 isn't bad as long as it's a constant temp. :D

hmm heater is off. The light indicator is off and when I feel it with my hand it is not hot. But I will unplug it tomorrow to be sure when I get home. as for tonight I am afraid if I unplug it the tank will freeze over night in case the heater was stuck on on mode.
any other suggestions in the mean time?
what temperature should my water be if room temp is 75?

I also have a 90 gallon and had a weird bout of temps wanting to climb. I replaced my heater....I also have to keep my heater down set like at 74 which keeps the actual temp of tank at 79.5 at night then the high never goes over about 81...occasionally it will go just sligh higher...I noticed that towards the end of the afternoon I have a picture over my mantle that reflected some extra light across to the tank..would have never guess since no direct sunlight hit it, that is when it would raise. See what you have coming in the room regarding natural light. I also have skimmer and 5 powerheads total running so I do believe these also move the water enough causing more heat. Try a new heater first. You will probably have to set your clock a bit tonight and watch your temp and check your heater regularly because my tank temp definitely drops at night a little. Good luck

Go to lowes, home depot or walmart and get a small clip on fan. let the air blow over the top of the water. this will bring your temp down 6 or 7 degrees. I have one over my sump too but have not had to use it yet. good luck.
