Ok so im getting some VERY different answers on this easy question...Water Temperature, where should it be?
I only have live sand, live rock, and couple fish no special corals or anything fancy, what should the water temp. be around??? i've tried the search function on here but it doesnt seem to be working keeps going to file not found/ error page.

Different people run thier tanks differently for various reasons.
For instance in Arizona it is often harder to keep the tanks lower and STABLE at 76* during the warmer months, they tend to run at around 80 or 81. Those few extra degrees make a world of difference when battling mid day heat without having a swing in temp.
In the Northeast...(pronounced "Nowath-Eastehn Sea-bode") They battle the reverse so trying to maintain a solid HIGH temp can present a challenge. They run as cool as 74.
I personally target 80, I use a chiller if its hot, and extra heaters if its cold. Tanks just seem happier with the higher temps in my exp.

Thanks
the tank and set up i got had 3 heaters in it, local fish store said GOOD lord you dont need ANY heaters let alone 3, i felt this was little strange. well, after getting things back up and running i fine out that only 1 of the 3 heaters worked and the one that worked you couldnt adjust the temp or even turn it off however the temp was staying at 74ish.
Santa was generous enough to get me 2 new heaters so those are up and running but wanted to feel the census on temp. I will raise mine up
Thanks again

Mine tank runs at 80 degrees, everything seems happier with it running at a higher temp, but some fish and inverts like cooler water so it also depends on what you have in your tank.

definitely a good post right there..
I've had a reef that ran at 85F for 6months for a test and corals grew ridiculously fast. Some fish&inverts especially those from the pacific won't tolerate much over 82F.. and for coolwater species much lower than that. I currently keep my tanks between 80-82F, but consistency is definitely important. I don't see why people try to keep tanks at 76F and stuff like that... kinda defeats the purpose of growing a reef since metabolism is much lower at that temp than 82F.

i only have a 4 stripe damsel, one spot foxface, C.Chip starfish, and some sort of crab. the story on the tank is unique in itself but is kinda long hahaha.
i raised the temp up and trying to get it around 78 which is about 2 degrees higher then it was. i have a floating thermo in one corner and i put one of those sticky strip thermos at the opposite and bottom corner, temp seems to be even from both ends.

I like the thermomiters that have the suction cup on them. There cheap and never let me down. I have way to much flow for a floating one. It would smack into everything and drive me nuts. But I keep my tank at heaters set at 78 but the tank is 80 all the time.
