you shoudl get the basic test kit at least to test PH, Ammonia, Nitrites, Nirtate and of course check your salinity

you should have seen a spike in all of them before adding anythign living to the tank (except for LR and LS) then the tank is cycled and ready for corals and fish and the CUC

yeah but my tank crashed and now it's been sitting empty for a week. i added a few more pieces of LR and i'm going to test but i am a lil confused as to how the LR changes the water. will it make a big difference?

ok i'm gonna test for what i have and then post it u guys tell me if i'm good

i had a FO tank and we killed them all
now we have the LR and a few crabs for about a week. today we bought more LR and some snails and a few more crabs. other than that the tank is empty. we went from a FO to a FOWLR and the whole thing got overloaded and they all got ick and died. so i was gonna test before bed and i was confused cause some peeps say that LR changes your water levels and others say u got to recycle with LR

I DON"T KNOW!!!
i just wanna let the tank sit for a few weeks and then get it all looking pretty again. I WANT ANOTHER BLENNY!!!

thanks!

hey shroomie, this is Josh, I helped you while your tank was crashing. Ok, since your tank is still showing nitrites, you DO NOT have a full cycle completed. Patience during this stage will lead to much success in the future, as I'm sure many experienced hobbyists will tell you. The reason your tank can go through a cycle (although not so drastic) when you add live rock/sand is the amount of die off from shipping the rock etc.. As you know live rock is encrusted with beneficial bacteria/organisms that help naturally filter your water. During shipping, or simply the changes in parameters from the dealers tank to your own can cause some of those organisms to die off causing a rise in your ammonia/nitrite levels. Put all the liverock/livesand you want in the tank now and let it sit and test it every few days. Once all of your levels read zero, you can now have that blenny (or any other fish) you so badly crave lol. Until then, if you decide to throw a fish in there, you will encounter the same situation you were in previously. Hope this helped,. as always, shoot me any questions you have.

Overall, excellant, but due wait for the tank to cycle, 3 more weeks should do it!

Lando101, I agree with you, but shroomie, your salinity if you run a FOWLR tank can be anywhere from 1.020-1.025 and you should be ok. Reef 1.023-1.025
